clean-energy-council-logoA new international agreement signed today will see clean energy companies in Australia working more closely with their counterparts in Singapore to help drive regional investment and clean tech development in Asia.

Australia's Clean Energy Council (CEC) and the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) have signed a new cooperative agreement in Singapore today, marking an important step forward in the strategic alliance of the two emerging industries.

It has never been more important to consider cutting down on energy use and reducing household energy bills. Sony's new energy-efficient TV has arrived in Australia to help consumers reduce their power consumption. The Sony TV - the BRAVIA WE5 - has been designed with unique energy-saving features, such as the "Presence Sensor" that automatically turns off the TV when no one is detected in the room.

Mushroom insulationRecently the co-founders of Ecovative Design, who live by the cradle-to-cradle philosophy, have invented two revolutionary new products from mushroom roots, "Greensulate" and "Acorn".

These two products could be alternative products for energy conservation and waste reduction. "Acorn" is a compostable packaging material and "Greensulate" is an organic insulation.

To make "Acorn" and "Greensulate", the founders of Ecovative Design, Gavin McIntyre and Eben Bayer, use the roots" of mushrooms known as fungal mycelium. The fungal mycelium acts as resin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resin.

The resin gives agricultural byproducts the ability to bond into "a rigid material" Because the mycelium is not allowed to grow long enough to produce mushrooms there is no risk of the production of spores and allergens.

Clean Energy Technology
Energy efficiency and renewable energy will need to deliver more than three quarters of the world?s greenhouse emission reductions by 2030 if the world is to see only a 2°C increase in global average temperatures, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) said yesterday.

In his keynote speech to the Clean Energy Council?s conference on the Gold Coast, Mr Nobuo Tanaka told delegates that the world?s energy system sits at a crossroads.

Current global trends in energy supply and consumption are patently unsustainable. Preventing irreversible damage to the global climate ultimately requires a major decarbonisation of world energy sources,? Mr Tanaka, Executive Director of the IEA said.
