Climate change, drought, water restrictions - when you mention the name of Australia as a country, these are just some of the terms which become associated with it. Although these environmental issues are not exclusive to Australia, the fact that desalination plants are planned to be built in Sydney, South Australia, Victoria and Perth are causes for alarm.

Landcare Australia and Coastcare are using World Environment Day as a call to action to get Australians motivated and engaged to do something to help our country and our planet.

The aim of the ‘Your Planet Needs You’ campaign is to make it easy for you to sign up to a volunteer register to say what skills you can offer (it could be anything really from hosting a BBQ to driving and even walking!)

Premier Anna Bligh described it as the worst environmental disaster that Queensland has ever seen. The Environmental Protection Agency or EPA said that it could potentially kill any wildlife which comes in contact with it. These are just some of the results of the cyclone oil spill which occurred on March 11 in the coast of Queensland.

So what exactly is it that triggered the oil spill? What will happen to the wildlife? What is the government doing to prevent any further damage that the oil spill can wreak to the environment?
