Eco Tips on Saving Electricity

Written by  Peter Bui

save-electricityNowadays, saving electricity has become a dictum for the modern society. Electricity is getting more and more expensive every year and this trend does not seem to change due to the increasing demand. Since the supply capacity of electricity is decreasing and a large portion of electricity generation has increased atmospheric carbon levels, one has to concentrate on a few eco tips for saving electricity.

In the coming years, we will have to face power blackouts and brownouts and this predicts the alliance to save electricity. The alliance urges government, utility companies, business and consumers to be a part of the solution. Consumers can easily reduce the power load in their own homes which will lead in cutting of energy bills and pollution too.

The biggest possible step to lower the bills and switching to less energy use is by renewing energy sources such as wind power or solar power. Since the energy produced by them is green, there is no burden on the environment.

A few easy tips for saving electricity are:

  1. Switching off lights and the use of fluorescent bulbs saves electricity.
  2. Washing machines and dish washers have become a necessity in today's life. Since it consumes a lot of electricity, it is wise to use it when it is fully loaded, which will be helpful in saving electricity.
  3. Switching off the monitor of a computer while not in use also helps in saving electricity. You can sign up with a green energy supplier who will provide electricity from renewable sources and this helps to reduce carbon footprint from electricity.
  4. Central heating supply can be reduced slightly.
  5. Un-plugging of mobile phone charges after use will save a lot of electricity.
  6. The refrigerator has to be defrosted regularly since this helps in saving electricity.
  7. Ensure that the ovens used are fan type so that they help in reducing cooking costs.
  8. Use of pressure cookers reduces the power by 25%.
  9. Use of solar energy helps in saving electricity as it costs nothing.
